Sleep deprivation? I know absolutely *nothing* about that...

Today's post is brought to you by the letter Z.  Because, well, I want some Z's.  Many of them, in fact.  Like at least this many: Zzzzzz...

Last night, my trusty computer of 7 years died.  After the initial panic, I went to Best Buy and bought a new one, replacing the old (and now-dead) desktop with a shiny new laptop.  Then I was up half the night doing all manner of computer-related things, from writing emails to writing to favorite ballplayers to designing merch for Red Pen, Inc's online store and then blogging about it...yeah, you get the idea.  I seriously have no idea where the energy comes from, but I suppose I'm glad I have it!

That being said, I'm exhausted.  I want some sleep.  Not at night, though--that's when I'm most creative and/or all the fun and exciting stuff happens.  I want sleep now.  Yes, in the middle of the workday.  I'm seriously considering a catnap in my car.  So I figured a sleep-related error was appropriate today with the mindset I'm in.  (For the record, the article should have said "week's worth.")

Hmmm...do work or take a little catnap?  Seems like a no-brainer to me...  ;)

Excellent post, as usual.

One issue and one kudo.

Issue: there aren't two spaces between periods and the next sentence. That's a lame holdover from 1980s typing class.

Kudo: Thanks for not putting spaces between the words and the "/" character. It drives me nuts when people do that. Have you ever seen 5 / 3 rd Bank?

When you're ready to write the book on sleep deprivation, I'll co-author! Zzzzzzz...

Thanks, cynicalsynapse!

1. I'm old school, I suppose. I absolutely prefer the 2 spaces--makes stuff easier to read. That being said, I don't think I was old enough in the 1980s to be takig typing classes then. ;)

2. I've actually never seen anyone put spaces on either side of a "/"--that must look really bizarre!

Sounds like a deal, Marie--if we can both stay awake long enough to write! :)

My dearest Grammarphile, I'm totally with you on the double space after the period. Cynicalsynapse was right that it is a holdover from old days (although not 1980s typing class, it's actually a holdover from when people typed on typewriters) but it definitely makes everything easier to read. Supposedly current computer formatting is supposed to "sense" the period and add a bit of extra space after -- not quite a double space but more than a single space -- but I have yet to see this magical formatting, especially with anything online.

Yeah, I haven't noticed any of that special formatting, either--and so I continue to use a double space after each sentence. Like that. ;)

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
