MISSPELLING MONDAY for August 10, 2009

Hmmm. Somebody was obviously smoking something when this sign was written. Something stronger than cigarettes, that is. Yikes!

Thanks to KIM for spotting this crazy misspelling!

Perhaps they are the eatable kind??

I liked those candy cigarettes too!

I'm trying to figure out if this person pronounces it like this too. I mean, the way I say it, there is a very distinct "eh" sound, indicating an E, not an A.

I pronounce "cigarette" with that "eh" sound, too. I've never heard it pronounced any other way. Perhaps this sign-writer has, though...

I always used to like those candy cigarettes! But still, edible or not, they do NOT deserve to be misspelled! :)

Very true.

Hey, no one called me out on eatable? ;) I'm disappointed. :(

LOL, I noticed "eatable," but I have a pretty strict "don't call people out on anything goofy they say in the comments" rule here. ;) Especially when I suspect that the reason they used the goofy word was for humorous purposes!

You, my fair friend are certainly sharp and grammarily great. ;)

Yes, I did indeed mean it in a humorous fashion as well as in the sense that those candies were indeed fun to eat, although when I really think back, the only thought that comes to mind is chalk. LOL

Eatable is a word, at least the dictionary writers believe it is, although not one I would ever recommend outside of a humorous use.

Warning: Smoking cigarattes may be harmful to your vocabulary. Has been known to cause misspellings and other embarrassing blunders in humans and spell checker.

@ Rob: Thanks! :) ...I actually wasn't sure "eatable" was a word; it's one of those words that sounds too silly to be an actual word. Now that I know it *is* a word, I'm going to have to use it in conversation every once in a while, just to see if anybody gives me any funny looks...

@ Leeuna: So, *so* true!

I always call them those "filthy, disgusting, cancer-causing sticks", makes it much easier than having to remember how to spell that particular word.

That's one way to get around having to spell it! :)
