HUMP DAY GRAMMAR for August 26, 2009

This is one of the funniest Hump Day Grammar pictures I've seen in awhile! It comes to us from the lovely MRS. X. She says: "This is one my aunt spotted at her local pharmacy; it reminds us of a great episode of Seinfeld!"

Let this be a lesson to you--there are certain words and phrases that simply shouldn't be shortened. "Assistant Manager" is a very good example of one of those phrases.

Thanks, MRS. X, for sending in this picture!

Oh dear heaven! Drop the periods and sneak in a "T" at least, buddy!

I am imagining a young employee that REALLY hates his boss snickering as he puts that sign up. Wonder how long he got away with it?

It looks to me like someone was being a wise ass. Whoever put the letters up surely could have fit "ASST. MGR." in the space he or she had on the sign.

@ LadyStyx: I know, really--how hard would that have been?

THE GRAMMARPHILE said...

@ April: At this point, it might be a young *forer* employee, depending on whether the boss has a sense of humor or not...

THE GRAMMARPHILE said...

@ Wordacious: It would only be fitting that the Wise Ass reports to the Ass Man. :)

When I worked at Stop and Shop during the college years, I worked in the Non-Foods Dept. (Basically mostly things your not supposed to put in your mouth, with the exception of pills etc). I made sure to label every single container of 'Analgesics' i.e. Tylenol, Cold Medicine, Pain Killers etc. as Anal, Anal 1, Anal 2 etc....., with each number designating a different container of 'anal' stock. Ahhh those were the days.....

Hahaha!!! That's awesome.

Hehehe, my first thought was definitely that Seinfeld episode.

That's one of the few Seinfeld episodes I've ever seen, and it was quite funny! :)

That is totally effing hilarious.

I agree. It kicks--going with the word of the day here!--ass. :)

See, if I was shopping in that store I would have totally gone up to the front clerk and asked to see the Ass Man.

THE GRAMMARPHILE said...

And that, Erika, is why you're awesome! :)

Sadly, this isn't the first time "assistant manager" has been so abbreviated. Check out this article (with photo) of the engraving on Canada's Holy Grail, the Stanley Cup.

Not only did the team have an ass man, they also had an ass train. Priceless!

OmiGOD, that is hysterical! Although I'm guessing Selke and Campbell aren't all that amused...
