HUMP DAY GRAMMAR for August 12, 2009

Usually, consistency is a good thing...

But not always.

Not, for instance, when you make the same spelling error over...and over...and over...

It's kind of pathetic when somebody else misspelling the same damn word but in a different way actually feels like a breath of fresh air.

By the way--you guys are totally awesome at submitting Red Pen, Inc. stuff (thank you to everyone who has been submitting funny errors to me lately!). However, I'm in desperate need of some Hump Day Grammar submissions. Don't let me be the only one who has all the fun of typing things like "blow-up doll," "condoms," and "butt plugs" in Google just to see what comes up that might have a misspelling or grammar error attached... ;) If you find something, pretty please send it to me: thegrammarphile@yahoo.com!

Ha! Maybe they were hoping to get at least one of the spellings right, but I highly doubt it.

I wonder if there is a connection between using these devices and poor grammar? I've found over the years that those that have a need to use these devices on a frequent basis tend not to be (almost split an infinitive there), shall we say, "academically proficient." However, this tends to be only true on the male side of the spectrum. Perhaps it is the number of brain cells devoted to thinking about such pleasures, versus thinking about life, the universe, and everything else.

I have one I keep meaning to send but I'm afraid it's rather boring and doesn't involve butt plugs or other such fun things.

Also, I *really* want to peek at your Google search history. :)

@ HLP: I get the impression that one person misspelled the word the same way three times, and that a different person misspelled it a totally different way. At least I know I won't confuse that website with, for instance, the MENSA website... ;)

@ Rob: That would be a hell of a research experiment to conduct, wouldn't it? Haha!

@ April: Don't be afraid to send it--I'll take the tamer ones just as readily as I'll take the more risque ones!

At this point, with all of my searches for HDG-related things, reading my Google history would probably make eve Hugh Hefner blush, haha.

Hmm. I tend to submit stuff I just see while out in the world (because I notice it) but I'll make more of an effort to seek out some HDG for you. =)

You submit good stuff--thanks, Bridgete! :) Hopefully an error appropriate for Hump Day will pop out at you sometime soon. (They really seem to be the hardest errors to find, though!)

There's a joke about being "hard to find" to be made...

Hahahaha! Damn right there is. :)

Now I have a goal. ... Just not one I can achieve at work.

Also, ew.

Haha! Yeah, it's definitely best to search for HDG-related stuff at home--unless, of course, you don't like your job, and want to use this as an excuse to do something crazy and potentially fire-worthy...
