FOODIE FRIDAY for July 17, 2009

I can't seem to decide whether this looks absolutely disgusting or totally delicious...

...and I also can't seem to figure out what "a buck of less" is (besides a silly typo, of course). That just sounds funny, doesn't it?

Of course, that little error is nothing, really, compared to this epic fail...

...during which the very same writer tries to convince us to eat the 500-calorie fruit instead of the 100-calorie fruit. (Also confusing: How exactly does the 100-calorie fruit allegedly have 14 more grams of sugar in it than the 500-calorie fruit does? I'm thinkin' they messed that up, too...)

Happy Friday, everyone! :)

Yes, they did. The frozen only have 50 cals per serving. It's the reason I use them in my smoothies. Anyhow, here's a link to the dietary facts:

I'd actually have to go and look at nutritional information to know if I'm correct here or if I'm completely pulling stuff out of my butt, however, that doesn't look odd to me at all. Just because something is lower calorie doesn't mean it's better for you. The sugars in that first version is what's bad.

Calories are energy. They're a good thing.

That first picture - I really want to say it looks good but something about the way it's photographed makes it look disgusting. They need a better photographer. Among other things, apparently. What exactly *is* buck of less?

Um. Yeah. The calories in fruit are from sugar. There's no way to get 500 calories out of 9 grams of sugar. Something is not right here. ;)

More evidence that the calculation is wrong...the first thing has 520 calories. So, are we saying that 3/4 of a cup of fruit has almost as many empty calories as that chocolate mess? Which, by the way, looks absolutely disgusting to me. But I don't really like chocolate, especially not THAT much (I know, I'm weird).

Well since I'm a curious sort I had to go find out.

You may now give me the fail of the day award and revoke my internets.

The first entry there is correct but the 500 in the frozen peach slices should be 50.

It turns out that I have a bit of a button when it comes to people thinking less calories = better for you.

Hiding under my desk now.

Depending on whether you ate such things as a kid, the pudding pies can either be awful or awesome. They were a staple of my family's long drives to the mountains, so there's a pretty high nostalgia factor in their bizarre, plastic-y filling for me. I'm sure if I ate one now it would fall far short of how good they were in my memory.

"Gas station treat." That right there is a HUGE red flag to stay far, far away. Do not eat it. Don't even smell it or allow it in your house or car. It will most likely send you running to the bathroom within minutes. I don't care if it is pre-packaged or made by the fine folks at Hostess. Gas station treat=slow, painful stomach death.
