Let's go, Eagles!

I'm rarely excited about football games, but today I'm rooting hardcore for my Eagles to make it into the Super Bowl. All they've gotta do is kick some Cardinal ass. And I think (or at least hope) they can do it...

This picture comes to us from ChicagoLady. She says: I think the only people who leave comments for articles are those who don't know how to spell. Besides the capitalization error, and the annoying use of all caps, how many errors can you find?

I was an English major, so counting is not among my strong suits. But I noticed that this person misspelled the name of my beloved baseball team, the city in which my beloved baseball team plays, and the name of the football team from the other side of the state of Pennsylvania. I find it ironic that this person seems to be cheering for a bunch of PA teams, but they can't correctly spell the name of any city or team in the entire state of PA. Sigh.

Thanks to ChicagoLady for this one! And...FLY, EAGLES, FLY...

Gosh! With fans like this, who needs enemies? It is no wonder "Philapadelphia" fans have such a bad reputation.
I hope the Eagles win today. It is going to be a tough game. Winning always feels so much better than losing, especially at this stage in the season. Go, Eagles!
Seriously...PHILAPADELPHIA!?!

I think my favorite is "philapadelphia." How do you just throw in a "pa?"

I think my brain actually started to hurt by the end of this one.

Interestingly, in that screen shot, there seems to be a button available so users can report abuse. Perhaps someone could report rampant abuse of the English language that occurred in that posting.

More importantly, though, let's go Birds. Super Bowl, baby!

oh goodness....I've got a headache attempting to read that mess! When are people going to realize that when you type like that, it just makes you look ignorant?

@ Mama Grammarphile: Let's go, Eagles! This is Philly's year, dammit. :)

@ Bridgete: Maybe the person tried to coin a new term from combining the name of the city with the abbreviation of the state in which that city is located? I dunno. (Yeah, I'm reaching here. It's much more likely that this person is just an idiot.)

@ Mrs. X: Ouch! Mine, too. :)

@ J: Ooh, that's a brilliant idea! :)

@ LadyStyx: You are not alone with that headache! :)

Perhaps confusion arose when they thought of Philateldelphia, the city of stamp collecting.

THE GRAMMARPHILE said...

@ Peter: I have no doubt that this person was very confused about *many* things. That could have been one of them. :)

I extend my condolences to you for the tragic loss your Iggles suffered at the hands of the Cardinals. ;-)

I guess my Philly sports teams can't dominate in EVERY sport. At least we kicked ass in baseball this year! ;) Thanks for the condolences, Carlos!

I was torn by the results of the game. Since I'm not an Eagles fan, I was happy to see them lose. And it's nice to see something good happen to the Cards and Arizona. But then again, since the Eagles are in the NFC East, the division of my beloved Cowboys, I kind of wanted them to win to represent the division in the SB. Either way, I'm rooting for the Stellers, I mean Steelers on February 1.

THE GRAMMARPHILE said...

I'll be rooting for the Steelers, too, since a) they're not the team that beat my Eagles, and b) at least ONE team from PA got into the Super Bowl this year, so I may as well cheer for them. :)

"spank cards"?

Wait, this isn't a hump day post...

Hahaha! Yeah, but with "spank cards", it totally sounds like one! :)
