THE RED PEN, INC. 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: DAY 11

On the eleventh day of Christmas, some shopper at Target pointed out to me...

...that perhaps this should read Mrs. Claus instead of Mrs. Clause. (By the way, I learned something new today: "Ruff" is actually a word! I thought the fine folks at Target were making it up, but it's listed in the dictionary, so it must be a real word!)

Is it totally nerdy of me to wonder, if there was a Mrs. Clause, if her job would be to make sure that semicolons were only found in sentences containing two independent clauses? (Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm a geek. But I'm a cute geek who uses semicolons properly, so whatever.)

Do you think Mrs. Clause might take a likin' to Mr. Nominative Absolute? They seem like a match made in heaven ;-)

And you are a geek, by the way. Wait. I am too. Crap!

Happy holidays to you from deep in the heart of Texas.

I'd hate to see the kind of babies those two would pop out--they'd probably be named Independent and Dependent! (Grammar geek joke!)

Happy holidays to you, too, Carlos! I'm jealous--it's probably MUCH warmer in TX than it is here in NY!
