Phillies-related mistake, post 1 of 2

In honor of the Phillies finally making it to the World Series, I'm posting a few entertaining Phillies-related errors. :)

Every once in a while, I'll find a really interesting error that's not grammar-related, but is a mistake nonetheless. This one's a major fact-checking mistake...from a source that really, really, REALLY should know better! This blurb refers to "how well designed [the Phillies] are to win their first World Series crown since '83."

Ummm. Perhaps the Baltimore Orioles, who actually did win the World Series in 1983, might have a little somethin'-somethin' to say about that. Yes, the Phillies were in the World Series in 1983, but they lost. The only World Series they've ever won was in 1980. And since 1980, the only World Series they've even been in were 1983 and 1993 (and now, of course, 2008).

Research, people--research! Sigh.

But... looking stuff up on Wikipedia is *hard*.

Hahahaha! Oh, EVula, I dig the sarcasm. :)

I'm not sure what's more embarrassing: that the Phillies' own "fact checkers" got it wrong, or that's it's been so long since the last WS win that no one could remember when it actually was.

Ha! And that's why I'm excited about this Series. I wasn't born until 1981--the Phillies have not won a Series in my lifetime! I'm hoping 2008 is their year to win it all. :)
