The beauty and the beastly apostrophe error...

It absolutely kills me how someone could take this picture of beautiful Cole Hamels doing the two things he does best (looking hot and pitching well) and then put an apostrophe mistake right above his intensely attractive face. The writer gets points for putting a correctly-placed apostrophe in Shuttin'--but technically, the next word should be written 'em, not em! This error is really distracting me from focusing on Cole's hotness...and that's just wrong.

Props to the fabulous Mr. Hamels for a stellar performance in last night's game against the Nationals. He did great work for the Phillies AND for my holding-steady-at-second-place BILFs...and that just makes him even hotter. Swoon.

And when civilians do try to put the apostrophe in 'em, they usually mistakenly use a single opening quotation mark instead. Drives me bonkers!

(Folks who don't know the difference: Within a word-processing program that uses "smart quotes," try typing the two pieces of punctuation separately, each as part of a different sentence, on your computer screen. Can you see the difference?)

I'm glad you mentioned that, Katharine--it's a pet peeve of mine, too. I always thought I was really, REALLY picky for being annoyed by that...but at least now I know I'm in good company! :)

Yeah, I'm stoked that Hamels and I are now Facebook buddies, haha. (I'm also Facebook friends with Pat "The Bat" Burrell!) Plus, I found out late last night that the Phillies are mixing up their rotation and are having Hamels pitch the Sunday night game against the Mets, so I bought a ticket to that game. (Hamels vs. Santana will be quite the matchup...especially with both teams fighting it out for first place in the NL East!) Unbelievably, even though Hamels has been my favorite player for two seasons now, this is the first time I'll be at a game at which he's pitching! *So* exciting! :)
