MAD LIBS WITH THE GRAMMARPHILE, 8/7/08

There are quite a few errors in this little blurb, but let's play Mad Libs with the one that will inevitably sound the funniest...

Gimme a VERB to fill in the blank of this sentence:

She loves to cuddle, catch ice cubes, and most of all, she will ________ anything for a treat.

There are so many Mad Libs options running through my head for this sentence right now...and I'm pretty sure all of them make the sentence sound dirty. In the Comments, shout out your favorite clean or dirty verb choices for this sentence!

Big thanks to MAGGIE, one of my very favorite Red Pen, Inc. readers, for sending in this picture!

Oh no you don't! I'm far too mature to submit an answeSUCK! THE ANSWER IS SUCK!

It is disturbing that this is about a dog, but the feeling will pass.

Conjugate. She will conjugate anything for a treat. :)

Hi, Mike! Hahaha...I knew somebody was gonna say "suck"! :) That word passed through my head when I read this sentence, too! Glad to know I'm not the only one around here with a dirty mind.

Mom, your Grammarphile daughter wholeheartedly approves of your Mad Libs word choice! :)

Well, "lick" is too easy, so how about "ossify"?

"Ossify" is a fabulous word! "She will *ossify* anything for a treat..." That sentence sounds almost sinister...and could even be interpreted as slightly sexual (since we're talking about *hardening* things)...very clever, NGIP!

I'd love to vote for ossify, if only because the word reminds me of the unrelated song "Ossining" by Mike Doughty and anything that reminds me of Mike Doughty deserves to win. ;) But the grammar nerd in me overrules that choice, commandeers my vote, and opts for conjugate because it's spot-on in its appropriateness for this site with its grammar-conscious, quiet double entendre.

Hi, Cheri! Mike Doughty...he's the dude who used to be in Soul Coughing, right? They were a cool band. And yeah, I agree--"conjugate" is a fantastic choice here! And I swear I'm not sayin' that just 'cause my mama suggested it, either...haha! :)
